1000-91 Comm for Macintosh
¨
There are several general purpose communications programs available for
use with Apple Macintosh computers. In addition, LI-COR has a communi-
cations program (1000-91) that is available on request.

■
To copy files to a Macintosh with the 1000-91.
The steps below will put multiple LI-6400 data files into one Macintosh file.
If you wish a one-to-one correspondence, then repeat Steps 6 through 9 for
each file.
1
Connect the cables
Connect the 9-pin end of the 1000-09 cable to the LI-6400, and connect the
25-pin end to a Hayes compatible modem cable for the Macintosh
(Figure 11-1 on page 11-3). The Hayes cable terminates in a standard male
25-pin connector which will mate directly with the 1000-09. Connect the
Hayes cable to the modem port on your Macintosh.
2
Run the program
Double click the 1000-91 icon.
3
Configure the Macintosh
For version 1.5 or above, select ÔLI-6400 Photosynthesis SystemÕ from the
Instrument menu, to set the Communications parameters. In earlier versions
of the 1000-91 program, select ÔGeneral...Õ from the Instrument menu and set
the parameters to 9600, 8, 1, N.
4
Configure the LI-6400
On the LI-6400, select ÔConfigure the COMM portÕ from the Utility menu,
and edit the entry to read
9600 8 1 N
. Press
enter
.
5
Verify Communications
On the LI-6400, access the Filer, and select the directory
/sys/utility
. Then,
highlight the file
Simple Terminal
, and press X to run it. At this point, you have
terminal programs running on both the LI-6400 and the Mac, so what you
type on the LI-6400 should appear on the MacÕs screen, and what you type on
the MacÕs keyboard, should appear on the LI-6400Õs display. Verify this.
If nothing appears on either display, there may be a cable problem, or you
arenÕt connected to the Modem Port. If characters are displayed, but are not
the ones you typed, then itÕs a configuration mismatch. Make sure the baud
rates, data bits, etc. match.
