Note:

If there is any PCIe card installed on the system board, it might block your access to the heat sink

and fan assembly. In this case, remove the PCIe card. See “Removing a PCIe card” on page 58.

4. Remove the four screws that secure the heat sink and fan assembly to the system board. It is

recommended that you carefully remove the four screws from the system board using the following
method to avoid any possible damage to the system board.

a. Partially remove screw

Note:

The four screws are integrated parts of the heat sink and fan assembly. Do not try to remove the

four screws from the heat sink and fan assembly.

5. Gently twist the heat sink and fan assembly to free it from the CPU, and then lift the heat sink and

fan assembly off the system board.

6. If you are instructed to return the old heat sink and fan assembly, follow all packaging instructions and

use any packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping.

Installing the heat sink and fan assembly

To install the heat sink and fan assembly, do the following:

1. Prepare your server and remove the server cover. See “Preparing your server in advance and removing

the server cover” on page 53.

2. Lay the server on its side for easier operation.
