Note:
When the computer is turned on for the first time after replacing the coin-cell battery, an error
message might be displayed. This is normal after replacing the coin-cell battery.
12. Use the Setup Utility program to set the date, time, and any passwords. See “Using the Setup Utility
Replacing the heat sink and fan assembly
Attention:
Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 “Read this first: Important safety information” on page 1.
CAUTION:
The heat sink and fan assembly might be very hot. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the
computer and wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
To replace the heat sink and fan assembly, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 88.
3. Locate the heat sink and fan assembly. See “Computer components” on page 31.
4. Pivot the two plastic retaining clips that secure the heat sink fan duct outward. Then, remove the heat
sink fan duct from the failing heat sink and fan assembly.

5. Disconnect the heat sink and fan assembly cable from the microprocessor fan connector on the system
board.
