Prerequisite

Before you start, read Appendix A “Important safety information” on page 77 and print the following
instructions.

Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer and wait several minutes until the computer is
cool.

Replacement procedure

1. Turn off the computer and remove all connected devices and cables.

2. Disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables from the computer.

3. Unlock any locking device that secures the computer cover. See “Lock the computer” on page 17.

4. Remove the vertical stand. See “Vertical stand” on page 42.

5. Remove the dust cover. See “Dust shield” on page 44.

6. Lay down the computer so that the computer cover facing up.

7. Remove the computer cover.
