DirecDoor Installation Guide

CHAPTER 1
Introduction
Notes:
This manual covers all versions of the DirecDoor Controller, including the DirecDoor
Single Door Controller (DDSDC). The DDSDC has fewer hardware components and
features than other DirecDoor models.
The following components have been removed from the DDSDC:
Connector J4:
The DDSDC only supports one door that can support up to two (2)
readers.
Connector J5 and Switch SW3:
The DDSDC does not support the DirecDoor I/O
Expansion Board (DDIO). The DDSDC does not support RS-485 communication.
Connector J7:
The DDSDC does not support the NX bus.
Connector J11:
The DDSDC does not support a dial-up modem.
The DDSDC also does not support a Dual Network Interface Card (NIC).
When working with the DDSDC and this manual, ignore references to the above-
mentioned hardware components and features, and any references about the host
application and/or the ICT and these components/features.
The DirecDoor controller provides distributed processing for the interface of access control readers,
keypads, alarm inputs and outputs back to a host system computer. This distributed processing allows
each DirecDoor controller to operate independent of the host system computer with the majority of
access control and alarm monitoring decisions made locally at the controller. DirecDoor provides
instant response for door control and alarm sensing in the field, while leaving the host system
computer with more processing power for quickly executing daily operations such as alarm response,
database updates and reporting.
DirecDoor incorporates flash memory technology that provides the ability to receive its operating
system and application remotely from the host system over the already established communications
path. This allows future firmware upgrades centrally from the host system without requiring costly
service trips to each location for firmware replacement. Both, the modular design and the flash
memory technology, provide a simple migration path when considering future host system upgrades.
The DirecDoor controller consists of the following:
•
Enclosure with DirecDoor PCA mounted
•
Hardware kit
