Basically a
<Mailing>
object is a special kind of
<Extern Text>
object.

for details about how to create an object and enter the
global settings for an object.
To create a
<Mailing>
object you will have to select this option in the
<Object settings>
dialog box on the
<Extern Text>
tab

<Mailing>
option

drop-down list

<Mailing object>
parameters are shown on the tab.
Wildcards
There is a display field which shows the current number of wildcards

. This parameter
can either be changed by using the arrow keys

or with the numeric keypad that will be
displayed when you click in the display field

.
Wildcards are used to determine the number of characters from the content of the
defined field

that shall be used. The used character (e.g. “X”) will be displayed in the
editor as long as there are no data loaded from the data file. As soon as the first data set
is loaded from the data file the wildcard characters will be replaced by these data.

Result
Due to the set wildcards only the first characters of the data in field 1 are took into account.
Fieldnumber
With the parameter
<Fieldnumber>

you assign the data field to the
<Mailing>
object.
The current content of the specified data field will be printed.
You can enter the parameter
either with the arrow keys

or the numeric keypad

which is displayed when you click
in the display field.
