2.4.4 DMX patch table
Patching is done based on the DMX parameters defined for the area. These are the guidelines:
The DMX channels that can be patched are determined by the 'first DMX channel' and 'last
DMX channel' shown in the DMX Layout table.
One zone can be patched to multiple DMX channels. A DMX channel can only be patched to
one zone.
Any of the RGB zones (RGB, RGBI, RGBxI, etc) can be patched over contiguous not-patched
or single-patched (intensity, incan, fluor, non-dim) DMX channels.
o
Example: DMX channels 1 through 5 are patched to intensity zones 1 through 5. Zone
6 is an RGB zone. DMX channel 1 can be patched to zone 6, using DMX channels 1, 2
and 3.
An RGB zone can be patched over another RGB zone only if it fits or is followed by not-
patched or single-patched DMX channels. Any extra channels become not-patched.
o
Example 1: Zone 1 is an RGB zone patched to DMX channel 1 (1, 2 and 3), zone 2 is
an RGBI zone patched to DMX channel 4 (4, 5, 6, 7). DMX channel 4 can be re-
patched to zone 1, leaving DMX channel 7 not patched.
o
Example 2: Zone 1 is an RGB zone patched to DMX channel 1 (1, 2 and 3), zone 2 is
an RGBI zone patched to DMX channel 4 (4, 5, 6, 7). DMX channel 1 cannot be re-
patched to zone 2 since it requires 4 channels and only 3 are available.
o
Example 3: Zone 1 is an RGB zone patched to DMX channel 1 (1, 2 and 3). Zone 2 is
is an RGBI zone that is not patched. Zone 4 is an intensity zone patched to DMX
channel 4. DMX channel 1 can be re-patched to zone 2, because 4 channels are
available – 3 from zone 1, and 1 from zone 4.
2.4.5 Sequential patch
A sequential patch is when every zone is patched to DMX channels, in zone order, beginning with the
first DMX channel. Any combination of zone types can be patched sequentially. For example, if
zones 1 and 2 are RGB zones and the first DMX channel is 100, then a sequential patch would set
DMX channel 100 patched to zone 1 and DMX channel 103 patched to zone 2. Before doing a
sequential patch, make sure that the number of zones, the number of DMX channels, and first DMX
channel are set correctly.
2.4.6 Overlaid patch for a capture-enabled area
The DMX channels for a capture-enabled area may overlay DMX channels for one not-capture-
enabled area, allowing one space to be controlled by two different areas at the station. The area in
control will be the last one selected by the station user on the Presets or Zones tab. In the SoliMobile
app, only zones in the not-capture-enabled area can be controlled when DMX channels are overlaid.
2.4.7 DMX Layout/Patching examples
1. DTM-MA has two areas. Each area is only controlled by its presets and zones. No DMX-IN.
Area Room1: DMX-OUT Source = presets.
DMX layout = 10 channels, 1 – 10.
Zones can be any type. Use RGB types as needed.
