20.3.9 Forcing a Software Update
You should only use this method in the unlikely event that the
failed.
WARNING
: A forced update does not check the hardware status of the component before performing an
update. This allows you to force a transfer of say IO card software to a defective component. However, it also
means that you could in error transfer IO card software to a control module and leave the system component
inoperative!
1.
Select the system unit and the component type you wish to update using the menu tree on the left hand
side of the main window – for example,
SOP Test

Then select
Run
from the top menu bar followed by
Software Update
->
Force
:
The ‘Force Software Update’ window appears:

From the drop-down
Type
menu, select the type of device you wish to update:

Surface
– Control Surface Modules
·
IOs
– IO cards within the System Unit (
sapphire
/
zirkon
/
Nova17
) or expansion IO cards within the
Compact Engine (
crystal/sapphire compact
).
·
System
– the
sapphire
/
zirkon/Nova17
Master Board,
Compact Engine
or
Nova29
.
·
Panels
- optional Key Panels.

In the
Slot
box, enter the slot position where the software modules should be loaded to - for example slot
6
. (This box is only active for
IOs
.)
5.
From the drop-down
Software
menu, define the software module - for example,
SAFE
.

From the Hardware list, select the type of component – for example,
942/12
.
