Running a PING test
Running a PING test
The PING command is a built-in Windows and Mac function, that allows you to test whether you have a valid
network connection to and from any networked device.
1.
Make sure that your computer is
to the correct network port, and that you have configured the
of your computer's network interface card.
2.
On a Windows 7 PC, type
cmd
into the "
Search programs and files
" field under the
Start
menu and
press Enter.
This opens the DOS command prompt window:
Alternatively, on a Mac, open the
Terminal
program (found in the
Applications
->
Utilities
folder).
3.
On both platforms, perform the ping test as follows:
Type
ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xx
(where
xx..
is the IP address of the device you are trying to connect to) and press
Enter
.
For example, to test the connection to a mc

56 control system (using its default IP address), you would type:
ping 192.168.102.56
Your computer will now try to establish communication...
