SoundAdvisor Model 831C
Before You Start
7-3
Davis Model EXCXXX microphone extension cables in combined lengths
up to 200 feet. XXX is the length in feet (XXX = 010, 020, 025, 035, 050,
060, 100 and 200) available.
Windscreen
Wind blowing across the microphone generates pressure fluctuations
on the microphone diaphragm which can produce errors in the
measurement. As a result, when performing measurements in the
presence of low level airflows, we recommended that you place a
windscreen over the microphone and preamplifier. Larson Davis
provides the WS001 windscreen, which is a 3 ½-inch diameter ball
made of open cell foam.

7.1.2 Performing an Area Sound Field Check
Starting a measurement during a dramatic sound change can affect
your data in an unwanted way. Before starting any measurement, it’s a
good practice to briefly monitor the area sound.
Step 1
On the meter, observe the current sound readings on the Live tab as
shown in
Figure 7-3
.
Because the windscreen can
protect the microphone from
accidental
damage,
we
recommend using it even when
measuring indoors.
