TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
The Troubleshooting Guide, shown below, is included to help you quickly locate problems that can hap-
pen using your 1230 Coulter Chisel. Follow all safety precautions stated in the previous when making any
adjustments to your machine.
PROBLEM
PROBABLE CAUSE:SOLUTION
1. POOR PENETRATION
A. MAIN FRAME NOT LEVEL: Level frame.
B. GROUND TOO HARD: Make multiple passes
through field.
C. WRONG CHISEL TOOL POINT: Select correct
point.
D. TIRES INFLATED UNEQUALLY: Inflate to correct
pressure.
E. MALFUNCTIONING DEPTH CONTROL CYLIN-
DER: Repail cylinder or hydraulic system.
F. WORN POINTS: Replace points as necessary
2. TRACTOR WHEELS SLIPPING
A. INSUFFICIENT REAR WHEEL: Add weight as re-
quired.
B. FIELD TOO WET: Wait until field is dry.
C. TRACTOR FRONT END UNSTABLE: Add front
end weights as required.
3. CHISEL PLOW RUNNING CROOKED
A. PLOW NOT LEVEL SIDE-TO-SIDE: Inflate tires
to equal and correct pressure.

SHOVEL
ARRANGEMENT: Install number of RH and LH
twisted shovels.
C. POINTS INCORRECTLY SPACED: Space points
evenly.
4. TRASH PLUGGING
A. INCORRECT POINT SPACING: Space points
evenly.
B. POINTS PLUG AT WHEELS: Move stub exten-
sions and points away from wheels.
