CVDR Operation
When done, press UP arrow once to highlight the START COPY tag, and then press SE-
LECT to start the copy process. However, before the user does that, it is possible to set a
memory marker from this menu by pressing the down arrow until the user has highlighted
the SET MEM MARKER tag and pressing select. The PI will respond by displaying the
memory marker number set in the memory marker select field. Once the user has set a
marker, the user should allow the FDR to record data for a few minutes before copying
from that marker.
NOTE:
If the copy is to be transferred to a separate ground station Readout Center
(ROC), note the memory marker number for retrieval purposes
.
5.2.5.1
Copy Progress Screen
After the copy process has started, a progress screen (Copy Time Remaining) appears on
the PI that identifies what type of copy was selected and displays a countdown of the esti-
mated seconds remaining until the copy is completed (this time may countdown to zero
and start again at 1024). In most cases, the user will want the process to complete on its
own. When this happens, the screen returns to the Main Menu display. If the copy pro-
cess encounters a problem, the appropriate error message will appear on the screen (In
version 1.0, the error message appears for 5 seconds, and then the screen reverts to the
main menu. In later versions, the copy error message will persist until the green MENU
key is pressed).
5.2.5.2
Aborting the Copy Process
The copy process can be aborted before completion by pressing the green MENU key
TWICE IN RAPID SUCCESSION. To prevent someone from accidentally aborting the
copy process, pressing the green MENU key once will not abort the copy process.
CAUTION:
DO NOT attempt to remove the disk from the PC slot during the copy process.
This can corrupt the disk. If this should happen accidentally, take the disk to a PC and run
SCANDISK on it to correct any corruption. The power to the PI should also be cycled be-
fore using it further.
5.2.6
Status/Control Menu
This menu permits the user to view the status of the FDR. The user can also start and
stop recording from this screen. When recording is started, the screen will show the vari-
ous phases of the data locking process (SEARCH and LOCK) as they happen. Other
fields on this screen display the number of hours of data currently recorded on the FDR
and the FDR’s fault status.
5.2.7
Special Functions Menu
The user can select six options from this menu including Version ID, Set/Clear Test Condi-
tions, Delete file from disk, Display GMT/Rotor Speed, Dump Fault Log to file, and Dump
Trace Message to file. All of these operations are described in the paragraphs to follow.
