FA2100 PORTABLE INTERFACE (PI) QUICK START USER INSTRUCTIONS
The PI supports FA2100 CVR audio monitoring at the aircraft, FA2100 CVR downloads on the
bench, FA2100 FDR flight data retrieval, Data Link file download, and miscellaneous mainte-
nance functions associated with these recorders. The PI connects directly to the front panel
Ground Support Equipment (GSE) connector found on the FA2100 recorders. At power up, a
main menu screen will be displayed. The PI will auto-sense the type of recorder to which it is
connected and will display a main menu screen that is unique to the recorder type (CVR, FDR,
or CVDR). With the use of the Auxiliary Power Cable, the PI can also be used to playback
CVR data stored on the removable hard disks, without the need to connect to a FA2100 CVR.
The PI display consists of an eight line by 40-character LCD display. User inputs are applied
through the seven push
−
button keys located below the display. There are four cursor position
keys that control the up, down, left and right cursor movement on the display. The SELECT
key located in the center of the four cursor position keys is used to indicate a menu or action
selection to the PI. Depressing the green MENU key returns the user to the main menu while
pressing the red DELETE key cancels entries made on the various sub menus. The red DE-
LETE key may also be used to “jump” from the Playback Menu to the Monitor Menu by rapidly
depressing it twice.
Three jacks are located on the sides of the PI for supporting FA2100 CVR audio playback. On
the left side of the PI is a 1/4-inch 600 ohm headphone jack for audio channel monitoring. Use
of this jack bypasses the built-in speaker for mixed channel audio output during CVR montior-
ing or playback.
The individual audio output mini DIN jack located on the right side of the PI is used in conjunc-
tion with the PI Audio Readout Cable, p/n: 17TES0051, for monitoring of individual audio chan-
nels. Also on the left side of the PI is a 1/8-inch stereo jack for output monitoring of GMT/FSK
and/or rotor speed data using the PI Aux Readout Cable, p/n: 17TES0052.
The Main Menu for the CVDR is illustrated in Figure 1
1. This menu combines both the CVR
and FDR sub menu structures. The sub menu structures for PI operation with the FA2100
CVR, FA2100 FDR, and the FA2100 CVDR are illustrated in Figure 1
When a PI is operated with a FA2100 CVR, Figure 1
2 is the PI Menu structure. When a PI is
operated with a FA2100 FDR, Figure 1
3 is the PI Menu structure. When a PI is operated with
a FA2100 CVDR, the menu structures for both the CVR and FDR are used.
