9-2.1.2 Maximum
Number
of Call Appearances
The STE can accommodate up to six call appearances while configured for the STE-8510 switch type.
Fewer than six call appearances may be used, but call appearances must be administered at the switch
in consecutive order starting at call appearance one. The Last Call Appearance value (1 – 6) must be
programmed into the STE under the network-setting menu to ensure proper call handling with multiple
call appearances. It is very important that the Number (1 – 6) is entered for Last Call Appearance value
to ensure that all call appearances can be activated.
NOTE
The six call appearances discussed above do not include the two data bearer call
appearances discussed in Paragraph
9-2.1.3 Definition of Data Bearer Call Appearances
Starting with release 2.3 in the STE-8510 switch type setting, the STE handles calls on data bearers
differently than it did before.
To understand what data bearer call appearances do, it may be helpful to know what a data bearer is and
what it does. When a call is placed to or from the STE, the connection and route is established using
different bearer types depending on what type of phone system the far end terminal is using.
If the far end terminal is connected to a PSTN line, the bearer type will be either a speech bearer or a
voice bearer. A speech bearer is limited by the connecting network to a 3.1 kHz bandwidth, may contain
one or more analog links, usually terminates on an analog switch and will only support STU or SCIP
signaling.
