7-1.5.5 Sidetone
Control
Sidetone may be enabled or disabled from the STE Configuration Menu, with or without a crypto card
inserted. The factory default for the Sidetone Control feature is “Enable” which places your voice in the
earpiece during transmission.
The sidetone must be disabled when the STE is used as a front-end terminal for a Defense Red Switch
Network (DRSN).

Terminating a Call
When your voice call is completed, place the handset in the cradle or if in speakerphone mode with the
handset in cradle, by pressing
SPKR
.
When your data call is completed, disconnect by pressing the
CALL
button.

PSTN - Initiating Calls
Upon going off hook, the STE will display one of the menus shown below (
), depending on the
Initial Mode Setting (Auto-Secure, Traditional, Secure-Only). For each mode, follow the instructions in the
table immediately below each menu to place a call.
