21.2 Checks and maintenance steps for winter operation

If you use the motorcycle in winter, salt can be expected on the roads. You should therefore take precau-
tions against aggressive road salt.
If the vehicle was operated in road salt, clean it with cold water after riding. Warm water would enhance
the corrosive effects of salt.

After EVERY trip on salted roads, thoroughly wash the
brake calipers and brake linings with cold water and dry
carefully. This should be done after the parts are cooled
down and while they are installed.
After riding on salted roads, thoroughly wash the motor-
cycle with cold water and dry it well.

Treat the engine, the link fork, and all other bare or zinc-plated
parts (except brake discs) with a wax-based corrosion inhibitor.

Corrosion inhibitor must not come in contact with the
brake discs as this would greatly reduce the braking
force.
