Adjusting the seating posture, display contrast and key-
Before starting to actually play the instrument, make your playing environment comfortable, by
adjusting your posture, setting the display contrast, and how the keyboard feels.
Correct posture at the piano
It is very important to sit comfortably at the piano. Arrange your piano bench so that it’s the best
height for playing, and the best distance from the piano. Your elbow/upper arm should fall freely from
the shoulder, and allows the forearm to be parallel to the floor when the forearm and hand are in their
natural shape. You elbows should rest slightly in front of the center line when your hands are in a neu-
tral position on the keyboard, with your hands in front of the elbows.
Sit on the front of the piano bench, far back enough to feel stable enough not to need to hold in place.
Adjust the bench’s height so that it is not too low, and your elbows are not too low either. The bench
shouldn’t be too high either, to avoid your heels are off the floor. Don’t sit rigidly, just feel easy and
natural.
Adjust the damper pedal as you feel more comfortable, by sliding it to the left or the right.
