Color Profiles
176—Chapter 4.2
Note to Macintosh OS 9 users—Custom profiles stored in the printer’s
Flash memory (Custom 4, 5, 6) can only be accessed via the OS X
PPD. This PPD is not installed on an OS 9 system by default. The
OS X PPD will function properly on an OS 9 system and can be
accessed from your Software Utilities CD-ROM or downloaded from
printer.konicaminolta.net/support.
Color Rendering Dictionaries
In the preceding text we explained how color laser printers process color by
means of ICC profiles. There is, however, another method called
Color
Rendering Dictionary
(CRD) color matching. Before ICC profiles were
introduced, the CRD color matching was the standard color processing
method, but it managed only RGB color.
The major difference is that CRDs use
fixed
dictionaries (translation tables),
while ICC profiles use flexible profiles for the input and output devices
involved.
Check the documentation for your software application to see whether it
specifies ICC or CRD color matching or whether you have a choice. You can
also check Color Notes in the Support & Drivers areas of our website at
printer.konicaminolta.net/support for tips on color matching with particular
software applications.
Because color printers have gamuts different than other color devices (such
as your monitor), it is necessary to tell the printer how to simulate colors out
of its gamut.
The CRD contains three different sections that may be independently
selected, each representing a specific desired output. By clicking on the
