Circuit breaker requirements:
When the hoist motor starts, it draws a lot of power. It is therefore important that the
electric supply is equipped with a suitable circuit breaker. The circuit breaker must be
able to withstand the large starting current. We recommend using circuit breaker with one
of the following ratings:
– 16D
– 20C
The circuit breaker is labeled with the rated current in amperes, but excluding the unit
symbol, A. Instead, the ampere figure is preceded by a letter,
B
,
C
, or
D
, which indicates
the
instantaneous tripping current
. That is the minimum value of current that causes the
circuit breaker to trip without intentional time delay. In general terms, the
C
type circuit
breaker will withstand 10 times the rated current for a short period of time. The
D
type
circuit breaker will withstand 20 times the rated current. For more information, see
standard
BS EN 60898
.
