PRECAUTIONS FOR CHARGING BATTERY

WARNING
When charging the battery, if the battery is not handled
correctly, it is dangerous that the battery may explode. Al-
ways follow the instructions in “PRECAUTIONS FOR DIS-
CHARGED BATTERY (3-246)” and the instruction manual
accompanying the charger, and do as follows.
• Adjust the voltage of the battery charger to match the
voltage of the battery to be charged. If the voltage is
not adjusted properly, the charger may overheat, caus-
ing an explosion.
• Connect the positive charging terminal (+) of the bat-
tery charger to the positive terminal (+) of the battery,
then connect the negative charging terminal (-) of the
battery charger to the negative terminal (-) of the bat-
tery. Make sure the terminals are connected accurate-
ly.
• Adjust the charging current to 1/10 or less than the rat-
ed battery power. When performing a rapid charge, set
it to a value below the rated battery power.
If the charger current is too high, the electrolyte will
leak or the battery cells will dry up, and this may cause
the battery to catch fire and explode.
• If the battery electrolyte is frozen, do not charge the
battery or start the engine with a different power
source. It is dangerous that this may ignite the battery
electrolyte and cause the battery to explode.
• Do not use or charge the battery if the optical charge
indicator is bright white or, if the battery does not have
the optical indicator, if the electrolyte level is below
the LOWER line (minimum level) . This may cause an
explosion.
