CHECKS AND ADJUSTMENT BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
METHOD FOR WALK-AROUND CHECK
Walk around the machine and look at the underside of chassis for anything unusual like loose bolts and nuts,
leakage of fuel, oil and coolant before starting the engine. Also check the condition of the work equipment and
the hydraulic system.
Check also for loose wiring, play, and accumulation of dust in places that get very hot and are exposed to ex-
tremely high temperatures.

WARNING
• When performing checks or maintenance of the inside of the engine hood or dirt cover, fully open
the hood or cover and be sure to fix it with the stopper.
• Accumulation of combustible material or leakage of fuel or oil around the high temperature parts
such as the engine muffler or battery may cause fire.
Check carefully, and if any abnormality is found, repair it or contact your Komatsu distributor.
If the machine is inclining, make it level before checking.
Always perform the following inspections and cleaning operations daily before starting the engine for work.
1.
Check for damage, wear, play in work equipment, cylinders, linkage, and hoses.
Check all of the work equipment, cylinders, linkage and hoses for cracks, excessive wear, and abnormal
play. In case of anomalies, resolve the relative problem.
2.
Remove dirt and debris from around the engine, battery, and radiator.
Check for dirt accumulated around the engine and radiator. Also check for combustible material (dry leaves,
twigs, etc.) around the battery, exhaust pipe, aftertreatment device, turbocharger, or other high temperature
engine parts. If any dirt or combustible materials are found, remove them.
3.
Check the area around the engine for coolant and oil leakage.
Check for oil leakage from the engine and coolant leakage from the cooling system. In case of anomalies,
repair them.
4.
Check for leakage of fuel from the hoses.
Check for leakage of fuel or damage to the hoses and tubes. In case of anomalies, repair them.
5.
Remove dirt and check DEF line for leakage.
Check for dirt accumulated around the DEF tank and clean blue DEF tank filler cap and surrounding area.
Check DEF tank, pump, injector, and hoses and their connections for leakage. If any problem is found, ask
your Komatsu distributor for repair.
6.
Check that there are no oil leaks from the equipment, hydraulic oil tank, hoses, and joints.
Check for oil leakage. In case of anomalies, repair the area affected by the leak.
7.
Check the components of the lower chassis and, in particular, perform an accurate check on the condition
of the tires and rims.

WARNING
Improper use of the wheels and tires can cause serious injury or death.
Do not attempt to repair damaged parts.
Deflate the tires before removing the wheels. On machines equipped with twin wheels, the inner wheel has
a valve extension to facilitate its deflation. The extension must always be installed after disassembling the
tire.
Contact the Komatsu distributor for tire removal.
