PRECAUTIONS FOR REPLACING BATTERY
When replacing the battery, remove the battery cover with a small-sized crane, etc. by installing 3 slings to it.
For detail, see “METHOD FOR REMOVING AND INSTALLING BATTERY (3-241)”.
METHOD FOR CHECKING AND ADJUSTING ALTERNATOR AND AIR CONDI-
TIONER COMPRESSOR BELT TENSION
Replace the alternator and air conditioner compressor drive
belt in the following cases.
For the replacement procedure for the belt, see “METHOD
FOR CHECKING AND ADJUSTING ALTERNATOR AND AIR
CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR BELT TENSION (4-35)”.
• When vertical flaw (2) that crosses horizontal flaw (1) is
found.
• When part of the belt has tears (3).
When only horizontal flaw (4) is found, replacement is not re-
quired.

WARNING
If the machine moves off during the following operation, ask your Komatsu distributor for repairs imme-
diately.
NOTICE
Never set the joy stick (steering, directional and gear shift lever) to the 1st speed range. This will cause
damage to the machine.
Before starting the engine, check the safety around the machine, and then perform the following operation.
1.
Start the engine.
2.
When the engine is started and warm-up operation is fin-
ished, set fuel control dial (3) to Low idle (MIN) position.
3.
Set work equipment lock lever (1) to FREE position (F)
and raise the blade and ripper by operating blade control
lever (6) and ripper control lever (7).
Leave work equipment lock lever (1) in FREE position (F).
4.
Set parking lever (2) to FREE position (F).
5.
Depress brake pedal (5), and press the upshift button and
set to the 2nd speed range.
6.
Set joystick (steering, directional and gear shift lever) (4) to
FORWARD position.
7.
Operate fuel control dial (3) and increase the engine speed
gradually to high idle.
Keep brake pedal (5) depressed.
