6. Install the Suction Assembly
Assemble the heater to the pump or as close to the pump as possible. Use the supplied gasket
(Option 1) if connecting the heater directly to the pump. Use the threaded 1-1/2
″
adapters (Option
2) and O-ring included with the parts kit if not connecting directly to the pump.
Position the suction assembly in the desired location. The suction assembly must be located at
least 12
″
(30.5cm) away from the heater.
Consider locating the suction assembly on a piece of 2x6
(or equivalent), if needed, to provide better clearance with the finished basin material. The center of
the suction cover must be located between 2-1/2
″
(6.4cm) and 3-1/2
″
(8.9cm) above the finished
floor surface. Do not secure the suction bracket in place at this time.
NOTE:
Water drainage from the system occurs through the suction assembly. Do not use flexible tubing
for the suction line. Use straight sections of rigid PVC tubing and, at most, one additional elbow or fitting.
Always maintain a minimum 1/4
″
(6mm) per foot (30.5cm) pitch toward the suction assembly when
measuring and connecting the piping. Do not use elbows to change the vertical direction of the tubing.
Measure and cut a length of 1-1/2
″
I.D. rigid PVC tubing to connect the suction housing to the
heater/pump inlet. Do not solvent weld the PVC connections at this time. Use a level and
measuring tape to ensure a minimum 1/4
″
(6mm) per foot (30.5cm) pitch toward the suction
assembly to provide adequate drainage.
NOTE:
Refer to the minimum waterline height information on the side of the pump box to determine the
maximum pump box height.
If the suction line does not provide the necessary pitch, place shims under the pump box to raise it
and achieve the correct pitch.
NOTE:
If you raise the pump box, also increase the footbath basin minimum water level accordingly. This
will increase the threshold height and minimum 9
″
(22.9cm) water depth. Failure to do so will prevent the
pump from priming.
CHECK POINT # 4.
Confirm that:
The heater is assembled to the pump.
The suction bracket assembly is positioned at least 12” (30.5cm) away from the heater.
Rigid 1–1/2” I.D. PVC tubing is measured, cut and fit, but not solvent welded.
The waterline height confirmed using the label on the pump box.
There is a minimum 1/4” (6mm) per foot (30.5cm) pitch from the pump inlet to the suction
housing.
Ensure minimum 1/4" (6mm)
pitch per foot (30.5cm) toward
suction assembly
