Installation and Operating
Instructions MA201 Stereo
Integrated Amplifier
Congratulations and thank you for choosing Knöll
products.
The MA201 is a stereo integrated amplifier rated
at 15 watts per channel. It is controlled by the
VC201 or VC201i keypad. These keypads are
available in white, almond and ivory colors. The
MA201 controls the volume, mute, bass and treble.
A VC201 keypad is located in some convenient
location in the room and it controls the volume and
mute. The MA201 is usually located near the stereo
source equipment but does not have to be.
Installation
The MA201 is normally wall or SMC mounted. It
does not have to be near the stereo equipment but
long line level audio runs are not recommended.
The MA201 needs to be controlled by a VC201 or
VC201i keypad. If VC201 keypads are being used,
one or two can be installed in each room. These
keypads are available in white, almond and ivory
colors. Cat 5 wires need to be home run from the
keypad locations to the MA201.
First with a good quality RJ45 crimper, crimp the
cat 5 wires from the keypad to the MA201 on both
ends with a RJ45 plug. There is no specific order
the wires have to go, so long as they are in the
same order on both ends of the plug. Install the
VC201 keypad, connecting the RJ45 plug to the
jack. If two VC201 keypads are being used to
control one room, the wire from one of the VC201
keypads can be run to the other VC201, with only
one home run back to the MA201 controller.
Next insert the wire from the VC201 keypad to the
MA201 jack labeled KEYPAD.
Connect the stereo source to the MA201 gold RCA
jacks labeled INPUT.
If the 12-volt output trigger is to be used connect
it now to the detachable terminal labeled TRIGGER.
The maximum output is 50 mA.
If this room does not require start mute, remove
the shunt from the appropriate pins next to gold
RCA jacks on the MA201. Start mute means that
the output is muted after the MA201 is powered up
until the volume control is activated.
If VC201i keypads are used, connect any required
emitters to the pins on the detachable connector
labeled “IR OUT” and “G”
If the MR202 source selector is being installed do
it now. Make a short RJ45 to RG45 jumper using
cat 5 wire to connect the “SELECTION” jack on
the MR202 to the “MR202” jack on the MA201.
Connect up to 4 stereo inputs to the MR202 gold
RCA jack labeled 1, 2, 3 and 4.
With good quality short as possible RCA cable,
connect the MR202 B outputs to the MA201
gold
RCA jacks labeled “INPUTS”. Connect the supplied
15VAC power supply to the MR202.
Connect the PS1318 power supply to the MA201
jack labeled “13VDC”.
Plug the power supply or supplies into the wall.
After the system powers up and the source is on
and running use the VC201 up button to turn on the
MA201. Adjust the balance, bass and treble on the
MA201 as needed. Use the keypad to adjust the
volume up and down. If the power supply is
installed to a switched outlet on a receiver, the
infrared cannot be used to turn the system on.
