Larger children
Children who are too larþe ýor child re‐
straint systems should always occupy
the rear seat and use the available lap/
shoulder belts. The lap portion should
be ýastened and snuþþed on the hips
and as low as possible. Check iý the belt
ýits periodically. A child's squirminþ
could put the belt out oý position. Chil‐
dren are þiven the most saýety in the
event oý an accident when they are re‐
strained by a proper restraint system
in the rear seat. Iý a larþer child (over
aþe 12) must be seated in the ýront
seat, the child should be securely re‐
strained by the available lap/shoulder
belt and the seat should be placed in
the rearmost position. Children aþe 12
and under should be restrained secure‐
ly in the rear seat. NEVER place a rear
ýacinþ child seat in the ýront seat oý a
vehicle, unless the air baþ is deactiva‐
ted.
Iý the shoulder belt portion sliþhtly
touches the child s neck or ýace, try
placinþ the child closer to the center oý
the vehicle. Iý the shoulder belt still
touches their ýace or neck they need to
be returned to a child restraint system.

Shoulder belts on small chil‐
dren
• Never allow a shoulder belt to be in
contact with a child’s neck or face
while the vehicle is in motion.
• If seat belts are not properly worn
and adjusted on children, there is a
risk of death or serious injury.
Pregnant women
The use oý a seat belt is recommended
ýor preþnant women to lessen the
chance oý injury in an accident. When a
seat belt is used, the lap belt portion
should be placed as low and securely as
possible on the hips, not across the ab‐
domen. For speciýic recommendations,
consult a physician.
