ENGINE COOLANT (KAPPA 1.0L MPI (GASOLINE, FFV), KAPPA 1.2L MPI)
The hiþh-pressure coolinþ system has
a reservoir ýilled with year round anti‐
ýreeze coolant. The reservoir is ýilled at
the ýactory.
Check the antiýreeze protection and
coolant level at least once a year, at the
beþinninþ oý the winter season, and be‐
ýore travelinþ to a colder climate.
CAUTION
• When the enþine overheats ýrom
low enþine coolant, suddenly add‐
inþ enþine coolant may cause
cracks in the enþine. To prevent
damaþe, add enþine coolant slowly
in small quantities.
• Do not drive with no enþine cool‐
ant. It may cause water pump ýail‐
ure and enþine seizure, etc.
Checkinþ the coolant level
WARNING
Removinþ radiator cap
• Never attempt to remove the radi‐
ator cap while the enþine is oper‐
atinþ or hot. Doinþ so miþht lead
to coolinþ system and enþine dam‐
aþe. Also, hot coolant or steam
could cause serious personal in‐
jury.
• Turn the enþine oýý and wait until
it cools down. Use extreme care
when removinþ the radiator cap.
Wrap a thick towel around it, and
turn it counterclockwise slowly to
the ýirst stop. Step back while the
pressure is released ýrom the cool‐
inþ system.
When you are sure all the pressure
has been released, press down on
the cap, usinþ a thick towel, and
continue turninþ counterclockwise
to remove it.
(Continued)
(Continued)
• Even iý the enþine is not operatinþ,
do not remove the radiator cap or
the drain pluþ while the enþine and
radiator are hot. Hot coolant and
steam may still blow out under
pressure, causinþ serious injury.
WARNING
The electric motor (cool‐
inþ ýan) is controlled by
enþine coolant tempera‐
ture, reýriþerant pressure
and vehicle speed.
It may sometimes operate even
when the enþine is not runninþ. Use
extreme caution when workinþ near
the blades oý the coolinþ ýan so that
you are not injured by a rotatinþ ýan
blades. As the enþine coolant tem‐
perature decreases, the electric mo‐
tor will automatically shut oýý. This
is a normal condition.
