Recovering the RT961S-Mk2
The mooring has been deployed, has been operating and now it is time to recover it. This
section describes the procedure to perform this recovery.
The acoustic release command is necessary for the releasing operation. It can be sent by
either the USBL-BOX, the RAMSES 6000 or the TT801 remote control unit.
Prior to proceeding with the releasing operation, it is recommended to range on the
transponder unit to check the acoustic link.
Due to the stand-by mode of the transmitting section, the RT961B2S may not respond to
the first remote control unit or transmit at very low acoustic power level. If necessary,
repeat the ranging operations.
When contact with the transponder is successful, note the range and compare with the
known depth on site of the mooring. Using the range indication, navigate the vessel
towards the mooring position until the distance equals approximately the depth. At this
position, stop the vessel and proceed with Release operation as follows:
Step Action
1.
Send a Release command with your remote control device (USBL-BOX, RAMSES 6000
or TT801). Check the corresponding user manual for this purpose.
Once the release command has been successfully received. The transponder comes
back to the surface. It is possible to monitor the return to the surface of the transponder
by sending successive ranging commands. The rising speed is usually from 1 to 2 knots.
2.
Recover the unit on the ship’s deck.
3.
Wash and clean the transponder with fresh water to remove salt, sand or silt especially
around the connectors. See maintenance procedure PM01 in section VII.
4.
Store the unit. See maintenance procedure PM02 in section VII.
5.
End of procedure.
From time to time, it is recommended to soak the unit in fresh water for a long period of
time (say 24H) in order to dissolve salt and to diffuse from hard to reach areas such as
crevices / grooves around O-rings and between the mating parts.
