1.7.4 Programming or Editing a Dose Protocol
1. It is recommended to choose and set the units for concentration as
the first step, as this will limit the range of unit choices for the Dose.
Units are available in a number of weight/time combination for both
mass ( mg/mcg) and international UNITS ( Units/mU).
Select Concentration pressing the ‘F2” adjacent the ‘Conc’ label.
Select each numeric value and unit type with the numeric keys and
up/down arrow keys. Press ENTER to save each entry field and
advance to the next.
2. Set desired DOSE value and units in a similar manor, using the
numeric and up/down arrow keys. Choose the DOSE entry by
pressing ‘F’. ENTER will accept each entry and move the highlight
cursor to the next entry field.
The line directly below the DOSE value and Unit line permits the
entry of the hard and soft limits for DOSE. With the highlighted
cursor just below ‘MAX’, enter the numeric value of any hard
maximum limit for DOSE desired. Pressing enter accepts this limit
and moves the highlight to the next. Enter limit values for the soft
‘High’ limit, soft ‘Low’ limit and hard ‘MIN’ limit as desired.
( High and Low are soft limits which may be overridden by the user
confirmation, MAX and MIN are
hard
limits which cannot be
exceeded)
3. Set patient weight limits in a similar mannor as above. Select
Weight by pressing the ‘F3’ key, pressing ENTER to select and
highlight each limit for numeric entry. Again, limits can be entered
for MAX, High, Low, and MIN weights in kilograms.
4. Time may be a user selectable input for some types of Dose units, in
which case limits for the Time of Dose delivery are also available
and settable in a similar mannor as above. Select Time limits by
pressing ‘F5’ and ENTER till the limits are highlighted. Set MAX,
High, Low, and MIN as above.
5. Review and validate the data input on the display screen and make
corrections as needed.
6. Save Program -
‘F6’ will save the protocol as programed with the
associated named drug. This key serves also to ‘Remove Drug’,
pressing ENTER, moving highlight cursor position can be used to
toggle between ‘Save Program’ and ‘Remove Drug’. Make certain
‘F6’ label shows ‘Save Program’ when intending to save a drug
protocol
.
7. To set up a dosing protocol for Bolus delivery, verify drug name,
press ENTER highlighting the current Dose mode ( eg. Primary), use
up/down arrow to find BOLUS mode, press ENTER to select.
