Mandrel Tension Adjustment
Mandrel tension has been set in the factory to
ideal, very little resistance. This is a divergence
from the traditional mandrels from other
manufacturers. Under normal circumstances,
the mandrel shall overspin after the tape had
been cut, about 2” or upto a quarter turn. It is
possible that under very cold or warm
temperatures the tension becomes too tight or
too lose. The tensioning nylon lock nut is
purposefully not easy to access, because
operators should not tweak it. However with a
13 mm nut driver it is accessible. The peel off
roller should reduce the over spin in most
cases.
Do not increase mandrel tension to improve
tape cutting. Slightly increase the one way
clutched roller to improve cutting action
Changes in mandrel tension might be required
for the following reasons:
1. Larger than 1000yd (914m) are used
2. Tape head is installed on faster line
speeds
3. The tape roll continues to over spin
more than ¼ turn after the case leaves
the tape head
Should a change in mandrel tension be
required, follow these steps:
1. Observe the rotation of a full tape roll as
a case processes
2. Should the tape roll continue to rotate
more than ¼ turn after the case leaves
the tape head, increase the M8 nylon
lock nut’s sqeeze slightly until only a
small amount of over rotation is
experienced.
3. Should the tape roll rotate very little or
not at all after the case leaves the tape
head, turn the M8 nylon lock nut counter
clockwise a miniscule amount until a
small over rotation occurs.
