Group 24 Batteries on Wheelchairs Built AFTER 1/25/04
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 12.5 on page 113.
Disconnecting
NOTE: Perform this section on one battery and battery box at a time. Repeat section for other
battery box.
1. Lift up on battery box lid to expose underlying cables.
2. Peel back battery terminal caps to expose battery cable ends as follows:
A. RED battery terminal cap from RED battery cable.
B. BLACK battery terminal cap from BLACK battery cable.
3. Remove the locknut and mounting screw to disconnect BLACK battery cable from the
NEGATIVE(-) battery terminal/post (DETAIL “A” of FIGURE 12.5)
4. Remove the locknut and fuse mounting screw to disconnect RED battery cable from
the POSITIVE (+) battery post (DETAIL “A” of FIGURE 12.5).
Connecting
NOTE: Perform this section on one battery and battery box at a time. Repeat section for other
battery box.
1. Position battery box top above battery as shown in FIGURE 12.5.
2. Peel back battery terminal caps to expose battery cable ends as follows:
A. RED battery terminal cap from RED battery cable.
B. BLACK battery terminal cap from BLACK battery cable.
3. Install the locknut and mounting screw to connect the BLACK battery cable to the
NEGATIVE(-) battery terminal/post (DETAIL “A” of FIGURE 12.5).
4. Install the locknut and fuse mounting screw to connect the RED battery cable to the
POSITIVE (+) battery post (DETAIL “A” of FIGURE 12.5).
5. Verify battery cables are correctly installed and securely tightened.
NOTE: Cables will be crossed on one (1) connector battery box top.
6. Reposition terminal caps over battery post(s).
7. Install the battery box top(s).
8. Install the battery boxes into the wheelchair. Refer to Removing/Installing Battery
NOTE: New Battery(ies) MUST be fully charged before using, otherwise the life of the battery(ies)
will be reduced.
9. If necessary, charge the battery(ies). Refer to Removing/Installing Battery Boxes on
