Connecting to a Network
The Ultrascan Beamformer can connect directly to a dedicated PC or to an existing network by con-
necting the beamformer to an Ethernet hub or switch. When connecting to a network, make sure the
beamformer's IP address is set to run on the same subnet (the first three groups of numbers in the IP
address). If you’re unsure about your network’s subnet, use the ipconfig DOS command (see page
49).
When connecting to a network hub or switch a crossover Ethernet cable is usually required to connect
between the Ultrascan beamformer and the hub or switch. However, many modern network cards,
hubs and switches can use either a normal Ethernet patch cable or a crossover cable.
The beamformer’s web server page (page 50) can then be used to set the Ultrascan’s beamformer IP to
agree with the existing network settings (that is, to have the same subnet and to have a unique device
identifier). For example:
