Appendix 3 Firmware Upgrading
Upgrading From the
Host, cont.
How to use a terminal program like MS HyperTerminal and a serial
cable
1. Connect a serial cable between host and printer.
2. Start the HyperTerminal program. Select port com1. Use a high
communication speed (57,600 baud).
3. Start up the printer and select Fingerprint via Shell

to listen on
serial port "uart1:" on for example baud rate 57,600.
4. Make sure that your are in contact with printer by typing for
example FONTS and the printer will respond showing fonts.
5. Type a download command so printer is ready for receiving
data:
RUN "dlk"
Select the file of type mcsXXXX.bin
Now printer waits for about 1 minute to get the file sent by
Zmodem as protocol.
6. Go to “Send file” and send it.
7. After file is received in printer, it will automatically replace the
firmware and the printer will boot up with the new one.
8. The printer’s display will automatically show ongoing steps.
The procedure ends with a normal startup of the printer.

/. There are also a possibility in Shell to select printer to be in the
receiving mode. Start up Shell and use <F5> to browse to “Soft-
ware update\Update:firmware”. (You have 1 minute to send the
file.) Also chech the printer’s baud rate in the Setup Mode. Con-
tinue with items 6-8.
How to use command prompt FTP and Ethernet
1. Connect a printer on Ethernet LAN or by a cross cable between
Host and printer
2. Open an FTP session to the printer typing the command from
you windows command prompt:
FTP <ip_address_of_the_printer>.
You will get a prompt asking you for USER: type
root
. You will
get a prompt for a PASSWORD: type
pass
. Use lowercase as it
is case sensitive.
4. After some answers on your screen you will see the prompt
FTP>. At this point type bin + <Enter>, then type hash +
<Enter>.
5. Now you can send the firmware to the printer with the com-
mand ”put mcsXXXX.net pr1”
5. Some ###### will appear on your screen showing the ongoing
transfer.
7. The printer’s display will automatically show ongoing steps.
The procedure ends with a normal startup of the printer.
8. Close FTP session typing bye + <Enter>.
9. After file is received in printer it will automatically replace the
firmware and the printer will boot up with the new one. The
printer’s display will automatically show ongoing steps and the
procudure ends with a normal startup of the printer.
