Working with the Midplane
The midplane and card cage assembly is removable for easy access to some midplane components.
3.5.1
Removing the Midplane Assembly
To remove the midplane:
1. Turn off the system and disconnect it from power.
2. Remove all boards from front and rear slots (see

Section 5.2, “Intake Grill with Air Filter” on page 58
4. Remove Fan Trays (see
Section 3.4.1, “Removing a Fan Tray” on page 42
).
5. Remove two of the upper center card guides by pulling firmly down on the ends of the each
guide. This gives you a place to hold the top of the cage and makes it easier to pull the cage
from the system. It also makes the top of the cage obvious when reassembling the system.
6. Remove the four midplane assembly retention screws on the front of the enclosure (see the
“Midplane Assembly Retention Screw Locations” figure below).
7. Pull forward on the cage until it disengages from the system.
