Technical Product Specification
Getting Started
Refer to Intel’s board-specific manuals for connectivity options and limitations. For document
ordering information, see
Appendix C, “User Documentation.”
.
2.4
Setup and Configuration
The ZT 5085’s midplane has several features that can be used to tailor the system for use in a
specific environment. The following topics address Chassis Management Modules (CMMs), slot
assignments, setting V(I/O), and disabling the power standby switch.
2.4.1
CMM Configuration
For detailed information about optional CMM configuration and diagnostics, refer to the Intel®
NetStructure™ ZT 7102 Chassis Management Module Technical Product Specification and
specific Intel® NetStructure™ processor board user documents. See
for document ordering information.
2.4.1.1
Operating with Redundant CMMs
The following requirements apply in systems configured with two CMMs:
1. Switches must be installed in slots 2 and 21.
2. The switches must provide the HEALTHY# output signal.
3. The switches must support port 19 (LP19). Port 19 of switch slot 2 is routed on the backplane
to CMM slot 1A. Port 19 of switch slot 21 is routed on the backplane to CMM slot 1B.
4. The switches must have a network connection between them, either via the inter-fabric port
(LPf) or via external connections.
Note:
Optionally, the CMMs may be connected through an external ethernet switch. See the Intel®
NetStructure™ ZT 7102 Chassis Management Module Technical Product Specification for more
information.
2.4.1.2
Operating without CMMs
The CMM controls the BD_SEL# signal to each slot. It asserts BD_SEL# to enable a board’s
“backend” power. The ZT 5085’s midplane provides jumpers for grounding each slot’s BD_SEL#
pin.
For the system to operate correctly, either:
At least one CMM and no BD_SEL# jumpers J1 through J20 must be installed
Or:
No CMM and all BD_SEL# jumpers J1 through J20 must be installed.
The BD_SEL# jumpers do not tie the IPMBs together so there is no management if there is no
CMM. Refer to
for jumper placement.
