System Fan Assembly Replacement
Required Tools and Supplies

Anti-static wrist strap and conductive workbench pad (recommended)
System fan assembly removal is required when routing cables inside the chassis from back-to-front or front-
to-back, or when server board replacement is necessary.
Note:
This section provides the steps to remove or install the system fan as an entire module. Individual fans
can also be replaced without removing the entire system fan assembly. See
Section 6.4
individual fans.

1.
Ensure the system power is off and disconnect the power cable(s).
2.
Remove the system top cover (see
Section 6.1.1
).
3.
Remove the air duct (see
Section 6.2.1
4.
Lift the latches on both sides of the system fan upward to unlock (see Letter A).
5.
Grasp each end of the fan module and lift the entire module straight up (see Letter B).
6.
Carefully place the fan module component side down onto a flat surface.
Note:
Do NOT rest the fan module on the fan connectors on the bottom side of the fan module. Doing
so may damage the connectors.
