Backplane Replacement
The base model for the Intel® Server System M50CYP2UR family comes with either an 8 x 2
.5” backplane or
12 x
3.5” backplane. The 8
x 2
.5” backplane can
support up to eight SAS/SATA/PCIe NVMe drives. The 12 x
3
.5” backplane can supp
ort any combination between eight SAS/SATA drives plus four NVMe* drives and
twelve SAS/SATA drives.

1.
Power off the system and remove power cable(s).

Remove the system top cover (see
Section 6.1.1
3.
Remove the air duct (see
Section 6.2.1
4.
Remove all drives and drive blanks from the front drive bays.
5.
Disconnect all cables from the backplane.
6.
Remove the fastener screw securing the backplane to the drive bay (see Letter A).
7.
Slide the backplane up from the bottom of the chassis (see Letter B).
8.
Detach the backplane from the guide pins shown by the orange lines in the above figure to remove the
backplane.
