Advanced Installation Steps

Install GSU31 on an Existing NT 4.0 Operating System
This procedure installs GSU31 into a system with an existing operating system installed. The
procedure ensures that the necessary software components are installed before installing GSU31.
Follow the required procedure below to install GSU31.
1. Have all hardware and software on hand. See system requirements in
2. Back up your operating system.
3. Run the latest virus scan on any downloaded diskettes used for installation or on any existing
volumes.
4. Log into NT and install the following components and software, if needed:
— Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 or greater
— Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.00 or greater
5. GSU31 Hardware
6. Power down the computer and install the hardware. See
Section 1.4, Install the Adapter Card
for detailed hardware installation procedures.
7. Install the Intel Integrated RAID Software
8. Create and configure a RAID volume using the RAID Configuration Utility. See
Invoke Advanced RCU” on page 2-20
to create and configure a RAID volume. Once a RAID
volume is created and configured, return to this procedure to install the GSU31 software.
9. Install the GSU31 software (run the GSU31 setup).
Note:
You must have administrative level permissions to install GSU31 software. This
procedure assumes that the GSU31 hardware and Windows NT server are installed and
operational in your system.
a. Insert the GSU31 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. If the Software Installation Main
Menu does not appear, then run the setup.exe file that resides at:
<CD-ROM root>\os_setup\winnt\setup.exe on the CD-ROM.
b. Click on the Setup button. See
. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete
installation.
The three components in the window in
are preselected. Accept this
configuration and click on Next.
Note:
The DMI and SNMP components are not selected by default. Refer to section
“Intel® Integrated RAID Software Component Installation” on page 4-3
of the
chapter for information on DMI and SNMP installation.
A progress bar appears that measures the progress of the GSU31 setup. When this screen
completes, you have completed the GSU31 setup.
