4.6.4.3. Patch Decoder Settings
This setting mask con-
tains all the necessary
settings to define the
patch code detection.
The mask pictured here
is graphically edited,
because it exceeds
the display area of the
touchscreen.
Internal patch code de-
tection is performed at
two different locations,
along the paper path:
Patch codes required
for controlling the Im-
printer Front or for deriving any of the variables used by the Imprinter Front are detected by optical
sensors, since this information is required at an early stage. A second iteration of patch code recogni-
tion occurs later, through the scanner’s cameras. Information that a patch code has been recognized
is passed along with respective images, as metadata. Such images are also marked with a special
symbol, in the sheet information area of the scan screen (
see chapter
) .
4.6.4.3.1. Read on
The first item on this screen determines which
side of an incoming document is searched for
patch codes. Please note that this setting
only
applies to patch code detection performed by the scan-
ner’s cameras.Besides
Front
, which is the default setting, you may also choose
Back
or
Both
. Selecting
None
will turn off patch code detection by camera, entirely
4.6.4.3.2. Read Area
These three fields specify the detection area
used by the cameras, when searching for patch
codes. The upper two values limit the detection
area horizontally and are both entered as dis-
tances from the left edge of the scanning area.
Within these horizontal limits, the detection
area is internally split up into 16 strips of even width. Patch codes are only considered valid if they are
detected in at least two of these strips. Therefore, whenever narrow patch codes are used (
e.g. when
processing labels
), it is strongly recommended to adjust the detection area in order to maintain reliable
patch code detection. The default values shown to the left (
0 mm and 317.5 mm
) are also the minimum
and maximum values allowed.
Read Area Stop
specifies the vertical extent of the detection area, for
patch codes located on the
front
side of documents. Generally, patch codes are only considered valid
if they are detected within the first
70 mm
of a front side image. If conflicting image data within the
detection area will cause false detection, this range can be reduced appropriately. As opposed to that,
the detection area on the
back
of documents is fixed, at a maximum length of
35 mm
.
4.6.4.3.3. Threshold
Use this adjustment option for detecting patch
codes with less than optimal print quality. The
default value of 100 will provide adequate detection with standard print qualities, whereas higher
threshold values will also accept patch codes with reduced print density.
