will also be removed. For Brightness, the Range - and Range + settings determine whether brighter
or darker shades of the dropout color will also be removed. In order to arrive at useful settings, you
should start by tuning the
Range – settings
, for Brightness and Saturation. The reason is that darker
or more saturated colors are usually already covered, by the default values discussed below.
The Default values for
Color Range
depend on the
Dropout Color
selected. For
All Colors
, the default
values are fixed at
+/-180
, thus ensuring that all color information is removed. For all other settings,
both range values default at
+/-18
, which results in relatively precise color removal. However, these
values may be changed. The default values for
Brightness Range
and
Saturation Range
are derived
from the selected
Dropout Color
. For the Range – defaults, the selected
Saturation
value is reduced
by
30
and the selected
Brightness
value is reduced by
40
.
For the Range + defaults, the selected values for Saturation and Brightness are subtracted from the
maximum possible value of 255, in either case. As a result, even less saturated image areas and the
largest possible brightness range will be covered by these default values, whereas very dark levels will
be not be taken into account. With the exception of
User Color
, all other
Dropout Colors
are preset to
a
Brightness
value of
128
and a
Saturation
value of
255
. Therefore, the respective default values are
255/+0
for
Saturation Range
, and
88/+128
for
Brightness Range
. If
User Color
is selected, the default
values for
Brightness Range
and
Saturation Range
are determined dynamically, on the basis of the
Dropout Color
selected.
4.6.2.2.3. Fill Color
Checking
Fill Color
will replace the color remo-
ved by the Dropout Setting with another color
of your choice. Tapping the color selection area will open the color picker dialog (
see chapter
which you can use to precisely set a replacement color. If
Fill Color
remains unchecked, the color spe-
cified in a Dropout Setting will be filled with the color surrounding the replacement area.
4.6.2.2.4. Dropout at
The lowermost two settings on this screen de-

4.6.2.3. Resolution
In this mask, the
Main
Resolution
field shows
the scan resolution
which is basically valid
for all the images, unless
no different resolutions
are selected in the
image type settings (
fol-
lowing chapters
). Possib-
le resolutions are 150,
200, 300, 400 and 600
dpi.
Notice
Selecting a main resolution higher than 300 dpi will automatically reduce scan speed to
80 sheets per minute
.
