Loop
In a loop pattern ridges enter from either side of the template image,
loop around the image and pass out again, creating a “Core” (or center
of the loop) generally located near the center of the template image.
Whorl
In a whorl pattern ridges at the core of the template image are usually
circular, resulting in a “Delta” (or, an area where there is a triangulation
or dividing of the ridges).
Arch
In an arch pattern, ridges enter from one side of the template image,
make a rise in the center and generally exit on the opposite side.
