Thank you for purchasing the PPS-4D Propeller. We are sure you will enjoy the new dimension in flying your IKA-
RUS Shock Flyer or favorite electric powered indoor 3-D airplane.
Please exactly follow these instructions during the assembly and transmitter programming.
Assemble the PPS-4D propeller exactly according to the exploded drawing shown below.
Make sure to secure all nuts with threadlocker, such as Loctite.
Balancing the propeller blades:
The blades have been weight matched at the factory. To achieve a perfect operation it is highly recommended,
that you fine balance the blades to a tenth of a gram (3 thousands of an ounce). Should there be the need to take
off material, it always should be taken from the trailing edge of the heavier blade by using 240/320 type sand
paper. Only this procedure ensures a vibration free system. In case of later damages to the blades, they always
should be replaced in pairs.
The mechanical/electronic standard settings:
Connect the 1.5 mm pushrod to the rudder horn 7.5 mm from its center. As this system is operating counter clock-
wise the pushrod moves forward to generate forward thrust.
The mechanically adjustable value for the maximum blade pitch (positive pitch of the blades) should be 5.8 mm
between the motor respectively propeller hub and inner collar (see drawing). The maximum negative blade pitch
(necessary for reverse thrust) should be 0.1 mm between hub and collar. You may achieve this setting by placing a
paper strip between hub and collar.
The required pushrod throw should be adjusted electronically in your
transmitter.
Programming:
We recommend to program initially 2 flight phases, which you may
switch during flight.
1. Select a new model memory on your transmitter
2. Use a helicopter program with one pitch servo (consult the manual of your RC radio).
3. Select the intended channel for the pitch servo and the controller (see transmitter manual).
4. Limit the servo throw of the pitch servo as suggested above.
5. Check for correct direction of the pitch servo and controller. If necessary reverse the channel(s).
Programming Flight Phase 1:
6. Go to the “Pitch Adjustment” menu.
7. Change the pitch curve to accomplish the maximum pitch value of 5.8 mm when moving the control stick
between -100 % to + 100 % of its entire throw.
8. Now go the “Throttle Adjustment” menu.
9. The throttle curve should increase linear from -100% to +100% of the stick throw (see drawing).
