Maintenance

•  Place the unit on a level surface away from sources of direct sunlight or excessive heat.
•  Protect your furniture when placing your unit on a natural wood and lacquered finish. 

A cloth or other protective material should be placed between it and the furniture.

When used in the directed manner, this unit has been designed and manufactured to ensure 
your personal safety.  However, improper use can result in potential electrical shock or fire 
hazards. Please read all safety and operating instructions carefully before installation and use, 
and keep these instructions handy for future reference. Take special note of all warnings listed 
in these instructions and on the unit. 

1.   

Water and Moisture

 – DO NOT immerse unit in water. Make sure the back seal and 

surrounding surfaces are completely dry before opening seal to prevent moisture from 
damaging the internal electronics. Keep seal free of dirt, sand, or other objects that can 
interfere with proper sealing. If for any reason the seal is not making a tight seal, water 
may enter the unit.

2.   

Ventilation

 – The unit should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere 

with its proper ventilation. For example, it should not be situated on a bed, sofa, rug or 
similar surface that may block ventilation openings.  

3.   

Heat

 – The unit should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, 

stoves or other appliances (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

Power Sources

 – The unit should be connected to a power supply only of the type described 

in the operating instructions or as marked on the appliance.

Cleaning

 – The unit should be cleaned only using a warm damp cloth. Do not use solvents,

receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

device.  If you suspect your battery may be dead, try charging it several times. If the battery

Playing Audio Via Bluetooth

Bluetooth status indicator will glow solid blue when a linked device is in range and 

detected. You can then listen to audio streamed wirelessly from your paired  

Bluetooth device.

1.  When a call is received, playing music is muted to hear the ring tone and the cabinet 

lights flash green. Press the        Bluetooth/Speakerphone Button to answer the call. 

For call waiting function, press the button again to answer the second call, and once 

more to return to the original call.

2.  When a call is completed, press the        Bluetooth/Speakerphone Button to end the 

call and resume previous function.

Unit doesn’t respond (no power)

•  Check that all connections are correct and properly plugged in.

If the unit does not respond, try resetting the unit by inserting the end of a paperclip or 

similar into the Reset Port located under the splashproof seal on the back of the unit .

need to be re-paired.

Trouble pairing device with iBT85

Bluetooth implementation varies depending on your device’s hardware and operating 

system. Please see our website for updates on pairing. 

•  When you power ON the speaker, it will automatically link with the last previously 

paired Bluetooth   device if the device is still within range (about 33 feet). To pair with 

a different device you must turn off Bluetooth capability on the already paired device, 

or take it out of range.

•  If your device does not auto-link when within range, re-pair the device. To do so, first 

delete the iBT85    from your Bluetooth devices menu. 

•  Make sure your device is working properly. Check your device’s manual for details on 

Bluetooth pairing and linking.

Troubleshooting

Charging the Unit

CHARGE UNIT BEFORE USE/KEEP UNIT OFF FOR FASTER CHARGING

1.  Connect the micro USB plug on the included USB cable to the micro USB In charging 

port on the back of the unit. 

2.  Connect the standard USB plug end of the cable to a powered USB port on a 

computer, a USB AC adaptor or other USB charging device. For first time use, charge 
unit for about 4 hours. The red charging status indicator LED on top of the unit turns 
solid while charging and turns off once unit is fully charged. When unit is not 
connected to charging source,indicator blinks when battery needs charging.

Pairing is the set-up process to introduce your Bluetooth-capable device to the iBT85. Once 
your device is paired, the iBT85 can recognize it and you can play your audio through it. Note: 
your version of iBT85 displays “iHome iBT85” on the Bluetooth device menu.

1. Turn on your Bluetooth device and make it “discoverable” by turning on 

Bluetooth mode (check in Options or Settings).

2. Press and hold the 

Power On/Off Button

 for 2 seconds to turn on the 

iBT85. The first time the unit is powered on, it will enter auto-pairing 
mode: the iBT85 will beep and the Bluetooth status indicator light on 
top of the unit will flash quickly.
If Color Mode is on, the cabinet lights will flash blue and red. 

 

 

 

  3. “iHome iBT85” should appear in your device’s Bluetooth menu. Select  

 

 

      “iHome iBT85” to connect it. If prompted for a passcode, enter “1234” on  

 

 

       your device’s keypad. If pairing is successful, 1 beep will sound and the  

 

 

       Bluetooth status indicator light will  appear solid blue (in Color Mode,  

 

 

       cabinet will flash blue twice), indicating the iBT85 is ready to play music.  

There should also be an indication on your device. If no 
device is successfully paired within 3 minutes the iBT85 will default to previous mode. 

4.  To pair with a different device or at a different time, make sure unit is powered, then 

press 

and hold

 the 

Bluetooth/Speakerphone Button

 for 2 seconds. Select “iHome iBT85” on 

device to pair.  Once the iBT85 is paired to a device, it will attempt to autolink when the 
device is within range (about 33 feet).

1.  Connect a standard audio cable (not included) to the Aux-in jack 

on the back of the unit and connect the other plug end to the 

headphone or line-out jack on your audio device.

3. Power on your aux audio device and use the controls on the 

device to play or pause audio and to navigate tracks.

Using Color Modes

There are six color modes, which you cycle through in this order: 
a. Slow Fade (colors slowly fade from one into the next) 

b. Fast Change (colors change 

rapidly)

c. One Color (select a favorite color)    

d. Pulse to Music (lights flash to the beat of the 

music)

e. Preset Pulsing (each light array pulses through its own preset pattern of colors)
f.  Off (no display)

mode, first cycle to Fast Change mode and press the

powered ON to charge devices via the USB Out Port. To charge devices via USB while 

operating on the internal battery, we recommend that the unit be 

fully charged first

The iBT85 will 

not

 charge external devices via USB when internal rechargeable 

battery is too low (red indicator is blinking). To save battery power, USB charging is 

limited to 1 hour when no audio is playing.

Lift splashproof cover on the back of the unit to expose the USB Out Port. 

2.  Connect the standard size end of a USB cable (not included) to the USB Out Port and 

connect the other end to the charging port on your device.

3.  Press and hold the Power On/Off Button for 2 seconds to turn the unit ON.

4.    Some devices require more power than the 1 Amp the USB Out Port provides. Monitor the 

charging progress on your device. If your device does not charge, use the charger that  

came with it.
