The Intel® ICH9DO Southbridge chipset is connected to the Northbridge GMCH through
the chip-to-chip Direct Media Interface (DMI). Some of the features of the Intel® ICH9DO

3.1.4.1 Intel® 82566MM PCIe Gigabit LAN Controller
One of the external RJ-45 Ethernet LAN connectors is interfaced to an Intel® 82566MM
Gigabit LAN connect device. The Intel® 82566MM is a compact, single-port integrated
physical layer (PHY) device interfaced directly to the Intel® ICH9DO Ethernet controller
through the GLCI. The Intel® ICH9DO Ethernet controller has its own Media Access
Controller (MAC).
