Replacing the hot-swap fan
To install the replacement hot-swap fan, complete the following steps:
1. Open the fan-locking handle on the replacement fan.
2. Lower the fan into the socket, and close the handle to the locked position.
3. Install the top cover and lock the front cover (tower model only) (see “Replacing
the top cover, bezel, and front cover” on page 121).
Removing the hot-swap hard disk drive
To remove a hot-swap hard disk drive, complete the following steps:

1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 115.
2. If you are removing drives from a tower model, remove the front cover (see
“Removing the top cover, bezel, and front cover” on page 119).
3. Open the drive handle and pull the hard disk drive out of the server.
Replacing the hot-swap hard disk drive
To install a hot-swap hard disk drive, complete the following steps:
1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the hard disk drive to any
unpainted surface on the outside of the server; then, remove the hard disk drive
from the package.
2. Make sure that the tray handle is open; then, install the hard disk drive into the
hot-swap bay.
3. Check the hard disk drive status LEDs to make sure that the hard disk drive is
operating correctly.
If the amber hard disk drive status LED for a drive is lit continuously, that drive
is faulty and must be replaced. If the green hard disk drive activity LED is
flashing, the drive is being accessed.
