Chapter 4. Installing and configuring the ProtecTIER v3.1.x.x
upgrade
Use these procedures to install the ProtecTIER v3.1.x.x upgrade on older servers
currently running ProtecTIER v2.4.x.x or v2.5.x.x.
The procedures in this chapter are all
Customer Tasks
or
IBM Service Tasks
.
Portions of the upgrade and configuration processes vary, depending upon the
server type(s) (3958 DD1, 3958 DD3, 3958 DD4, or 3958 AP1); the system type
(stand-alone or clustered), and whether or not replication is being used.
Note:
The upgrade procedure is non-concurrent. You must complete the
ProtecTIER v3.1.x.x upgrade on one server before moving on to the next. Both
servers in a cluster will be offline until the upgrade is complete on Server A (the
bottom server).
Important:
v
Before starting the v3.1.x.x upgrade, you must first do the following:
– Verify that RAS was previously configured on each server currently running
v2.4.x.x, and configure RAS if you determine it has not been done.
– Stop the vtfd and ptcluster services on the stand-alone server, or on both
servers in a cluster.
Refer to the applicable topics in this chapter for instructions for performing the
pre-upgrade tasks, above.
To perform the ProtecTIER v3.1.x.x upgrade, you will execute the ./autorun -f
script. The ./autorun -f script performs the following tasks on each server:
v
Installs ProtecTIER v3.1.x.x and associated RPMs, ProtecTIER Replication
Manager, and the RAS package.
Note:
The customer must perform additional tasks to enable the Replication
Manager functionality on the server designated to run the Replication Manager
software. Refer the customer to the
IBM System Storage ProtecTIER User's Guide
for Enterprise Edition and Appliance Edition
, IBM form number GA32-0922 for
additional information and instructions.
v
Updates server firmware components.
v
Checks the firmware level of the disk storage components attached to TS7650
Appliances, adds a password (ibm2serv), and suggests upgrading the storage
components to the required firmware level, if necessary. (The upgrade can be
performed at a later time.) The ./autorun -f script
does not
check the firmware
levels of the disk storage components attached to TS7650G gateway servers. For
information and instructions for these components, refer to the manufacturer's
documentation.
v
Restarts the server.
Important:
If a server is already being used for replication, it is not necessary to
run the ./ptconfig script to reconfigure it. The software upgrade process does not
overwrite or alter the server replication settings.
