Enabling Hardware Management Console Services
Skip this procedure if your system has been restored from diskette or pre-configured, from
manufacturing or if you have a pre-configuration diskette and go to “Defining Support Element to
the Hardware Management Console” on page 6-10
Note:
If your system has been pre-configured it will be indicated by a sticker attached to the Hardware
Management Console.
1 The Facility
This facility allows your system to automatically
report problems to IBM. It also allows you to
receive the latest licensed internal code changes
from the IBM Service Support System.
If you do not have the proper
telecommunications equipment defined to use
this facility or if the customer does not
authorize you to use this facility, go to “Defining
Support Element to the Hardware Management
Console” on page 6-10.
Important
If you have existing Hardware
Management Console's attached to this ring (a
DOMAIN established by the TCPIP addressing)
that have not been upgraded be aware of the
following conditions. Older generation
Hardware Management Console will not be
able to define newer generation CPC's to them.
The older generation Hardware Management
Console
CAN NOT
operate as a DOMAIN
Phone Server
,
LIC Change
focal point or
Problem Analysis
focal point Hardware
Management Console.
It is recommended that all Hardware
Management Console within the ring be
upgraded. If this condition can not be met
ensure that a least one of the new generation
Hardware Management Console has all the
CPC's within the ring defined to it.
A Hardware Management Console can only
serve as a
Phone Sever
to a CPC defined to
it.
As least one of the new generation Hardware
Management Console that you are installing
must have
LIC Changes
,
Problem Analysis
and
Phone Server
Enabled, and all CPC's
within the DOMAIN defined to it.
Ensure that you disable
LIC Changes
and
Problem Analysis
on older generation
Hardware Management Console.
Rules
Only one Hardware Management Console
should be defined as
Problem Analysis
focal
point.
– This Hardware Management Console must
be the latest generation and have all
CPC's within the DOMAIN defined to it.
Multiple Hardware Management Console can
serve as a
Phone Server
to any CPC defined
to them.
– These Hardware Management Console
must have a modem attached.
Multiple Hardware Management Console can
be
LIC Change
Enabled. However LIC
changes need only be applied from one
Hardware Management Console.
– Ensure all CPC's within the DOMAIN are
defined to it.
– Must have the
Phone Server
Enabled to
receive changes.
Note:
Do not make a Hardware
Management Console
LIC Change
Enabled if all CPC's within the
DOMAIN are not defined to it.
