Creating the LAN (Local Area Network)
Skip this procedure if
not
connecting to a LAN for Hardware Management Console communication and go
to “Installing System Cables to I/O 01 Expansion Frame” on page 1-15
1 Before you continue
The local area network you are about to
create can be a token ring network, a
ethernet network or a combination of both.
There are five possible plug locations for
LAN adapters. With a maximum of two
used for communication with an Hardware
Management Console.
The operating system will detect the
adapters according to their plugged
location.
The following chart show the possible
plugging locations based on the customers
order.
1. Cable the adapters you will use to
communicate with an Hardware
Management Console
Note:
1. It is not intended that I/O and Support
Processor be connected to an
individual Hardware Management
Console via two LANs, either direct or
through bridges. It is intended that the
separate LAN adapters be used to
connect separate networks of I/O and
Support Processors to an HMC.
If making a Token-Ring LAN connection go to step
2
.
If making a Token-Ring LAN connection to an existing ring go to step
3
.
If making Ethernet LAN connection go to step
4
.
If making Ethernet LAN connection to an existing ring go to step
5
.
