Troubleshooting by symptom
Use this information to find solutions to problems that have identifiable symptoms.
To use the symptom-based troubleshooting tables in this section, complete the
following steps:
1.
Check the IMM event log and follow the suggested actions to resolve any event
codes (see “IMM event log” on page 63).
2.
Find the symptoms that you are experiencing in the troubleshooting tables in
this section and follow the suggested actions to resolve any problems.
3.
If the problem remains, submit a service request (see http://
ralfss21.raleigh.ibm.com:8099/help/topic/com.ibm.acc.common.nav.doc/
getting_help_and_technical_assistance.html).
Compute node start problems
Use this information to solve compute node start problems.
Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action
column until the problem is solved.
Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem is
solved. See Chapter 5, “Parts listing, Types 7917 and 2584,” on page 51 to determine which components are Tier 1

Action
Embedded hypervisor is not in
the boot list
1.
If the compute node has recently been installed, moved, or serviced, or if this
is the first time the embedded hypervisor is being used, make sure that the
device is connected properly and that there is no physical damage to the
connectors.
2.
Go to http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/
us/ to validate that the embedded hypervisor device is supported for the
compute node.
3.
Use the Setup utility to make sure that the embedded hypervisor device (USB
key) is in the startup sequence. From the Setup utility, select
Start Options
.
4.
Check http://www.ibm.com for any service bulletins related to the embedded
hypervisor and the compute node.
5.
Make sure that other software works on the compute node to ensure that the
compute node is working properly.
