Installing
a
memory
module
The
following
notes
describe
the
types
of
dual
inline
memory
modules
(DIMMs)
that
the
server
supports
and
contains
other
information
that
you
must
consider
when
installing
DIMMs:
v
The
server
supports
up
to
eight
PC3200
DDR
II
ECC
Registered
SDRAM
DIMMs.
The
server
supports
a
minimum
of
512
MB
and
a
maximum
of
16
GB
of
installed
memory.
v
The
server
uses
interleaved
DIMMs;
you
must
add,
remove,
or
replace
DIMMs
in
pairs.
Each
pair
must
be
of
the
same
type,
capacity,
and
speed.
v
The
server
supports
256
MB,
512
MB,
1
GB,
and
2
GB
DIMMs.

v
The
server
comes
with
one
pair
of
DIMMs
installed
in
DIMM
slots
1
and
2
on
the
system
board.
The
server
comes
with
a
minimum
of
512
MB
(two
256
MB
DIMMs).
v
You
can
increase
the
amount
of
memory
in
the
server
by
replacing
them
with
higher-capacity
DIMMs
or
by
installing
an
additional
pair
of
DIMMs
into
the
remaining
available
slots.
The
following
illustration
shows
the
memory
slots
on
the
system
board.

When
installing
additional
DIMMs,
always
install
them
in
pairs
starting
with
slots
1
and
2.
v
The
server
supports
Chipkill
™
memory
technology,
which
enables
the
server
to
function
with
one
bad
chip
on
a
DIMM.
The
bad
memory
module
must
be
on
a
x4
DIMM.
The
256
MB
and
512
MB
x8
DIMMs
do
not
support
Chipkill
memory.
