Chapter 6. Hardware maintenance
This section contains information to help you solve some of the simpler problems
that you might have with your storage system. It contains the problem indicators
and error messages along with suggested actions to take to resolve the problem.
For instructions on how to obtain service and technical assistance for your storage
system and other IBM products, see “Getting information, help, and service” on
page xvi.
General checkout
Use the indicator lights, the diagnostics and test information, the symptom-to-FRU
index, and the connected server HMM to diagnose problems.
Solving problems
This section contains information to help you solve some of the problems you
might have with your DCS3860 storage system or EXP3800 expansion enclosure.
The following table contains the problem, symptoms and error messages, along
with suggested actions to take to resolve problems.
Always use the IBM DS Storage Manager to diagnose storage system problems and
component failures and find solutions to problems that have definite symptoms.
You can use the following table, which contains the problem symptoms and error
messages, along with suggested actions as a guide for troubleshooting problems in
addition to the IBM DS Storage Manager Recovery Guru in the Subsystem
Management window. Do not depend solely on this table for a FRU replacement
decision.
